Two Athenian citizens, Pisthetairus and Euelpides,
fed up with their home town, set out in search of a peaceful place to live.
They persuade the birds to build a city between heaven and earth
and act as mediators between the people and their gods.
Will their clash with the gods bring them the happiness they desire?
